Dropbox Compatibility with Monterey OS

Dropbox Compatibility with Monterey OS

Has Dropbox fixed the compatibility with Mac OS Monterey yet?  It's been a couple of months since I received the compatibility warning - and currently waiting for a fix to have my company upgrade to the Monterey OS.  If not, any idea as to when this will be finished?

Hey @Rick_Schramm, thanks for reaching out to our Community.

We're actively working on full support for macOS 12.3 (Monterey).

You can read more about it in this article from our Help Center.

Looks like still broken (end of July 2022).

Guess they are not able to fix it, ever.

Hello!

I just bought a new Mac that's a Macbook Pro M1 and I'm curious if there's any issues remaining. I would like to use the online-only feature, but I'm not sure if it's there yet.

I see old articles online saying that even the Desktop app for Silicon is in Beta, but actually the Desktop for Mac is Universal. So that has been confusing.

I would suggest to Dropbox to please update Mac users as to whether we can be rest assured that the latest version is OK to use and if there's any remaining bugs. Is there a difference in using the online-only files compared to the old-way that may not be that convenient now?

Thanks!

macOS 12.5 and Dropbox:

Upgraded internal SSD from Big Sur. Rebooted and then dropbox resync automatically reviewed everything (over 100k files) most of which were Selective Sync “Online Only” files.

Upon completion, the Dropbox folder was missing app. 95% of them! All of the missing files were NOT deleted and were still viewable when I logged onto the Dropbox website in Safari. And they were where they were supposed to be i.e. NOT moved into some DELETED sub folder on a 30 days-until-final-purge status.

So, 9 months and 5 versions into Monterey Dropbox still fails. Even though Roaring Apps falsely says its good to go.

Dropbox is essential for me and so I restored Big Sur and at this rate Monterey will never see the light of day on any system of mine.

P.S. Boxcryptor for Monterey is STILL in beta also and has always interacted with Dropbox in crucial ways. But I guess they can’t get a Monterey version in gear either.

Very disappointing all round.

I have an MacBook Pro with M1/silicon chip and iMac with M1/silicon chip.

I have macOS Monterey 12.5.1 (the latest as of this writing, on both devices).

One has been set so that everything is downloaded and nothing is online-only. Thus, I have avoided issues with Dropbox's online-only functionality as they update it to work with newer Macs.

I mistakenly assumed that opting into Early releases meant that I might get some email from Dropbox saying I was eligible for trying out their beta release, but I wasn't guaranteed this. Actually, it sets the download site (dropbox.com/downloaded) to download the latest beta! So, just to clarify that for everyone.

I just opted-into early releases (Account --> Settings --> Early Releases, and then went to dropbox.com/downloaded, and then was able to download the latest beta for one Mac I have that I prefer having online-only files for. I like that it does not show Dropbox-specific extensions and it seems to work similarly to the way Dropbox typically works. It is version: 157.3.4738. A chat agent said that 3 stands for the beta version.

According to an online article, the opting into preview releases allows you to download the early releases earlier than the planned ones Dropbox has for October. I am pleased with it thus far! You can still choose to "right-click" and download the file as offline or folder as offline, etc. similar to Google Drive.

This version was just released a few days ago.

I am not sure if it will automatically update, so I realize I may have to manually check the versions that Dropbox releases. I decided to save the download site (I listed it above) as a Bookmark as it seems to detect the system by default. But for me, it didn't pop-up in an obvious way, so I had to search for the Downloads folder - but that very well may be my system.
