Dropbox does not migrate properly on a new Mac

Dear All,

I am migrating my Dropbox to a new computer with the same name and username. After I run Dropbox I get an error message.

Deleting local instance ~/.dropbox and reinstalling Dropbox app  did not help.

Any ideas?

Hi @prokudin, thanks for joining the Community!

In general, we don't recommend migrating the Dropbox app or folder to another machine using a third party service for the reasons you're experiencing.

If you're not on a Dropbox Basic plan with more than 3 devices connected, could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?

Dear Jay,

Thank you, it worked!

I did delete my dropbox instance in the terminal

mv ~/.dropbox/ ~/.Trash/dropbox.old

Then I removed /DropboxHelperTools from the /Library (press Command+Shift+G and search /Labrary to go there in Finder).

I then replaced the old Dropbox directory and installed dropbox app from the scratch.

A new directory was created and all files are now synchronized.
