Re: Dropbox never finishes syncing

Dropbox never finishes syncing

I am running Dropbox on Fedora Linux.  It's been working for a long time but as of two days ago, it never stops syncing.  Previously, all files were up to date but then it just says syncing.  I've let it run 24/7 for two days and it's not ever going to finish.

How can I tell what is wrong?

Hi @cb m., I'd be more than happy to help!

Could you let me know the app's current syncing status, along with the version that you have installed on the device?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there.

Syncing status?  Well, like the message states, it never finishes syncing.  So the status is "syncing".

Dropbox daemon version: 162.3.5408
Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04

I'm on Fedora 37.

Hey @cb m., sorry to jump in here, but I wanted to mention that it seems that you're on a beta version of our desktop app.

Could you download and install the latest, stable version from this page and let us know how it goes?

Note that you may need to toggle off the early releases from your account's settings online beforehand.

I'll keep that version in mind.

Right now, I am using the solution below and it seems to be working.  However, the icon still isn't stable but at least it's working for now.

Well, it stopped working again.  I pulled down all files and finished.  Then I made a simple change (moved a file into a folder) and now nothing works.  Stuck on syncing again.

I pay $130/year for this and IT DOES NOT WORK.

Dropbox daemon version: 162.3.5408
Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04

Running on Fedora 37.

Sorry to hear about this @cb m.

I'm sorry to repeat myself here, but could you try the latest, stable version of the desktop app from this page and let us know if this persists?

Note that you'll need to toggle off the 'early releases' option from your account's settings online first.

If it does, you could try fixing your hardlinks and permissions as outlined here too.

Yes, I am using the latest stable version.  Been syncing for days.  If I uninstall the app completely, and pull everything down.  It works just fine.

However, it was taking 54 GiB of my RAM!!

Now, if I exit the app and restart it, it will never finish syncing.

Did you try fixing your hardlinks and permissions again @cb m.?

If you did and the syncing is still stuck, please send us a screenshot of the app's current status, so that we can have a visual too.

What hard links and permissions?

Do you have an example of what you mean?

The app just shows "Connecting..."

Also, it's taking a LOT of RAM.
