I just upgraded to El Capitan, and upon restarting my Macbook Pro I got a notification telling me that Dropbox was not compatible with El Capitan and has been placed in a new folder called "Incompatible Software"!!
Would love someone to tell me how to fix this...
So I just dragged Dropbox out of this brand-new "Incompatible Software" folder and back into the Applications folder and started it up...and it started as normal. Strange. I just tested it and it seems to be working fine. The only thing is...even though I have "Start Dropbox on system startup" checked in Dropbox preferences, it wasn't starting up when I restarted my computer. I had to go into my System Settings and re-add it to my Login Items in my User Profile.
Very weird, very worrying, but ultimately seems to be back to normal.
The current version of Dropbox works just fine on El Capitan, so it seems likely you had an older version installed.
Get the latest version here.
Ah, excellent, I see you've sorted it out. Probably just a little glitch introduced when the OS was upgraded. Such is life. 🙂
Just to check - I'm at version 3.10.7. What's the up-to-date version?
At time of writing, the download page lists v3.10.7 as the current stable build.
I have this 'new' version of Dropbox 3.12.6, but Elcapitan will only download the disc image, not the program upgrade. It simply will not open it. Hopeless.
The Dropbox v3.12.6 installer works just fine for me on El Capitan.
If you're having difficulty, try the offline installer.
