Hoping someone can help, I've set up a folder to sync with dropbox, it's the documents folder on my iMac. I have a very long setup at the side of my window showing my folders and the moment I do a backup they all disappear. So it's sort of removing these aliases if that makes sense. There was about 20 in this window and now there isn't. When I start the sync it says that it will rearrange my files but "don't worry they'll be back to where they were when finished" but that hasn't happened yet. Will they come back? How do i stop this from happening?
Hey @cachecoco, welcome to our Community!
Out of curiosity, has the desktop app finished syncing your Backup? You can check your app's syncing status by following these steps.
As for your folders, and aliases disappearing, would you be able to send a couple of screenshots my way? They would be a great visual help.
Thanks a bunch!

Hi thanks Megan, no the upload hadn't finished as it was the first time I'd done a backup and the upload was massive. But in the meantime I needed to use my mac and the aliases in the window in the attachment were all "mucked up"…more than half of them disappeared and all the settings of the windows reverted to how they are when you first get the mac (all the customisations I'd done reverted). I abandoned the upload as it was going to take so long and my machine was left unusable while it was uploading
Hey @cachecoco, thanks for the screenshot and the update on this.
When you say you abandoned the upload, what did you do at that point? Disable backup?
Did you eventually allow syncing to complete and what kind of behavior do you see now?

hi, i abandonded the upload as the constant scanning of my files and trying to upload new things made my very powerful mac so slow, my system just became so slow. I dont understand how anyone bothers using this method to backup if you have a lot of data (15+GB). I disabled the sync and manually fixed what happened with all my aliases etc. I just can't afford the downtime that the upload was causing
