I am in the middle of upgrading my PC and when I reloaded DropBox I get this stupid system of prompting to backup when an item is connected to a USB Port. I have tried switching this of, even on loading the program. Despite that I still get the damned prompts.
I do not want your backups, I do not want PLUS, what I want is get back to the straight forward DropBox that was on my PC until recently.
I know you are doing this to increase your income; but as you must realise not everyone wants what you are trying to force on them.
I am retired and therefor have a very restricted income, so I take care of my own storage currently at 18.5Tb. A lot, yes, but my system allows me to take copies of copies, totally under MY control and cheaper than I would be paying to you. I take copies because it means that I can setup elsewhere with instant access, whereas backups have to have software to restore which takes a long time to be able to access the data. I have also had experience of backups NOT restoring due to software faults. Also, in my situation nowhere was there anywhere that I could find out what the heck was going on!!
You have no accessible email for help; it is all Social Media - please note that there are more people in this sad world WHO DO NOT USE SCIAL MEDIA THAN USE IT!!
You may now see why I am so totally hacked off with.
Basically the only system that I trust is the one that I control.
Please, DROPBOX, give some of us the ability to do what we want and turn off your, so called 'goodies'
Hey @KenSinclair48, thanks for posting to our Community!
I totally hear you, and I am here to assist you as much as possible. When you see the pop-up asking you to back up your external drive, do you have an option to choose "Never ask me again?"? Have you clicked on that?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there.

Your response completely misses the point.
I work a lot with thumb drives, often reformatted between uses. I am not your typical brain-dead consumer who only has a couple of thumb drives with family photos on them. I use thumb drives to make bootable binaries of Linux or other systems. I use thumb drives as a sneakernet between various computers because setting up a samba share on the PC is an exercise in futility.
Can I PLEASE, PLEASE PERMANENTLY end this moronic "Back up your drive to Dropbox"? Always. Forever. For any USB drive.
The option to choose "Never ask me again?"? ONLY WORKS FOR THIS SINGLE DRIVE! And only if it is not reformatted. Whis is often for me.
Did anyone mention how annoying it is to get this prompt ten times a day, or more?
Did you understand my request when I said PERMANENTLY?
If I NEVER see that prompt again I will be happy.
Hi @SteveRMann, just for clarification, did you uncheck the box under external drive backups in the Backups tab, in the Dropbox desktop application preferences?

Who would have guessed that this useless notification was not in the notifications tab?
I'll see if this fixes the problem.
