Keep getting a message that the Dropbox app needs to update

Every day when I start up my computer I get the message that Dropbox needs to update.  when I click on 'yes' it can access my files, or 'no', it doesn't seem to matter because it does nothing.  20 minutes later I get the same request.  It is extremely annoying!!  How can I get it to go away?

Hey there @RedRadar - sorry to hear about this.

Could you please provide a screenshot of the exact error message you get so I can have a visual too?

Also, have you by any chance tried to reinstall our desktop app to see if this will resolve your concern?

Keep me posted please!

I have not tried to reinstall.  I could try that.  My system apps that are running tell me that ‘Dropbox is up-to-date. (Dropbox 57.489 up to date)

Would unchecking the box to have ‘Dropbox start with system startup’ help?

I have tried repeatedly to 'reply' to your email and it never goes through.  How can I send you the attachments?

Sorry to hear that @RedRadar - I haven't sent you an email; is it possible that you were trying to reply to the email notification you got from our forum's system (the default ones that are sent to notify you when someone has posted something new to a thread you've participated or following)?

Moving on to your concern now, I would suggest that you performed a re-install as a first step to fix this issue while I wanted you to also note that the latest stable version of our desktop app is 59.4.93 and the "up to date" message is referring to your syncing status - not the app's version itself.

Each new version includes a number of key updates so it’s important that you run the latest version whenever possible.

Last but not least, if the problem persists after you've reinstalled our software, you can send me the screenshot(s) you wanted here by clicking on the "Choose file" button below your post.

I hope this helps and please keep me posted on your progress.

PS: Turning the "Dropbox start with system startup" off would result in the application not running automatically when you (re)boot your computer and I'd advise against it should you like to keep syncing your files within your Dropbox folder seamlessly.

Walter - I have reinstalled Dropbox, to no avail.  It still gives me this message everytime I have my computer on.  I am attempting to send you a copy of the messages I get.  The first is what shows up in my task bar; the second is what shows up when I click on it.  Then, no matter if I click on 'yes' or 'no', nothing happens except it disappears for a while, only to reappear again in about 20 minutes.

Sorry to hear this persists @RedRadar - could you let me know if you noticed this using our latest stable build's offline installer found on this page (currently 60.4.107 )?

The issue you are seeing is likely related to an incorrect level of permissions when the Dropbox application was installed.

In this case, we'll need to verify that the Windows UAC levels are set to default levels. This can be changed in your Security settings in the control panel.

For more information about UAC levels please see the following link (the instructions in the website are also applicable to Windows 10):

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/975787

Then try re-installing normally.

Keep me posted!
