Latest Mac update preventing Dropbox from opening

Latest Mac update preventing Dropbox from opening

pvanallen
Explorer | Level 4

I saw this issue on another string but didn't see the solution. Since updating my mac to Monterey 12.3.1 my dropbox app won't open.

I tried downloading the app and re-installing but that did not work.

Hey @pvanallen, thanks for bringing this to our attention today.

Are you getting some kind of error message, when trying to open the app? Or is it not responding at all?

Do you have a Dropbox icon in your menu bar? And what do you see when you hover your mouse over it?

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

I receive warning messages from Apple over the last two days saying that I need to contact Dropbox and alert them to the fact that Dropbox would not work after the new monterey update .

I saw that the update was schedule to go live this night but I was able to cancel it before I triggered any problems with Dropbox

Has Dropbox made any announcement on this matter?

Hi @Hannah

Last 24 hours I received messages on my Apple Mac using monterey warning me that dropbox would not work following the upcoming Monterey update. The update was scheduled to run this evening and update my system however I stopped it before it could prevent access to any of my dropbox files when I get home I will try to see and report back the precise message coming from Apple as I took a screenshot of it just in case

Hi @Hannah

Pop-up message said “ Legacy system extension, existing software on your system loaded a system extension signed by dropbox Inc., which will be incompatible with a future version of macOS. Contact the developer for support“

Hope this helps

Hi @Rich K.4, sorry to jump in here!

This message is about how a constituent of the desktop app will behave on a future release of macOS.

There is no change to the way Dropbox will work on your computer today and your data will continue to be accessible.

I hope this clarifies.

the dropbox icon disappeared from my menu and when I try to open the application I get this message.

Couldn't start dropbox

This is usually because of a permissions error. Storing your home folder on a network share can also cause an error. For more information, click the help button below.

and the link then brings up this which means nothing to me ; )
