New Mac Client

New Mac Client

The new Mac client doesn't actually 'move' files to the new location. It deletes everything and re-downloads it to the new location. This is bad and Dropbox should feel bad.

I was expecting it to be bad, but this is worse than I'd expected even from Dropbox.

Hey @orc4hire, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

While we appreciate your feedback, would you mind giving us some more info about the behavior you're seeing?

Are you referring to the new version of the app? Or perhaps our backup feature?

Any additional info or details would be really helpful.

Thanks.

The new version of the app, like I said.

Hey @orc4hire, sorry to jump in, but can you please provide some additional information about the behavior you're noticing and how long has it been going on for you?

Also, when you say the latest version of the app, are you referring to the 159.4.5870 version

What is the version of the app running on your computer as shown in your menu bar?

It was the upgrade to 159.4.5870.

No lasting harm was done, but the upgrade does not do what it says it's going to do.  It doesn't move the local files, it removes them and re-syncs to the new location.

Hi @orc4hire, in order to assist further, we would need some more information. Are you referring to the computer backup feature, or are you referring to something else, such as your files being moved to the CloudStorage location?

Moved to the new location during client upgrade.

Thanks for the info. Have the files successfully synced down into the CloudStorage folder?

Yes. Like I said, there's no lasting harm. It's just alarming and poor practice when the installer doesn't do what it says it's going to do.  Especially when that involves removing the user's files.
