New dropbox: Preview.app creates duplicate files within Dropbox Backup/Documents

New dropbox: Preview.app creates duplicate files within Dropbox Backup/Documents

Hi,

since upgrading to the new, Ventura-compatible version of Dropbox, I am experiencing an odd issue: Whenever I make a change to a PDF (such as entering text) within the Documents folder (that is backuped up by dropbox), Preview.app creates a duplicate and states it can't overwrite the original file. I can then, however, manually locate the path and overwrite it. This doesn't happen outside Dropbox, and it also doesn't happen inside the folder "Downloads" even though that is also within Dropbox Backup. When I disable Dropbox Backup and make Documents a regular folder, I don't have the issue anymore. It looks like a permission problem or something alike, does somebody have an idea what I could do?

Thank you all!

Hey @Timecop, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Can you let us know if this happens if you pause or quit the desktop app while you edit the file(s) too?

If you could also clarify the app's status and version as shown in your menu bar as well, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Thanks @Walter.

I am on 163.3.5436 and the indicator shows no errors. Closing Dropbox doesn’t solve the issue, however, completely disabling Dropbox Backup and reverting Documents to a standard Mac folder does fix the issue.

Hey @Timecop, can you please try the following steps, to see if they help?

  1. Click on the Dropbox icon in your menu bar and then click your profile picture or initials
  2. Select 'Preferences'
  3. Click on the 'Account' tab
  4. Hold down the 'Option/Alt' key
  5. Click on the 'Fix Permissions' button (make sure you're still holding down the 'Option/Alt' key)
  6. You may be prompted for your a username and password, this is your computer login credentials, not your Dropbox account ones

Hi @Hannah, thank you. That didn't solve the issue, unfortunately.

Hey @Timecop, sorry to hear you're still having issues with this.

Would it be OK if we reach out via email to have a further look internally at this point?
