Stuck indexing 127,861 files on new machine

Stuck indexing 127,861 files on new machine

Hello, I have downloaded Dropbox onto a brand new Macbook Pro and it is stuck indexing 127, 861 files.

There is ample memory as the Macbook Pro is new.

The version of Dropbox is 173.4.6706

I have tried logging out and in again, deleting the app and reinstalling, restarting the app, and restarting the Mac many times.

I have also tried fixing Hardlinks and Permissions as I saw that this fixed someone else's indexing issues.

I also can't see anything created in the last 2 days (on my old Macbook Pro), so syncing is also not working, although no sync issues are reported on eithe Mac.

Please help! Thanks, Laura

Hi @LauraMingo, what is the OS that you have installed on the device?

It might be worth checking out the troubleshooting steps outlined in this article too. Although, we do not recommend re-installing the application if the migration is still in progress.

Hey there, @LauraMingo, welcome to our Community!

You mentioned that you have just downloaded and installed the app. Is your Dropbox folder located in ~/Library/CloudStorage?

If so, then keep in mind that following a migration to the new Dropbox for macOS, your files need to be re-synced. Depending on the amount of files you have in your Dropbox, this may take some time to complete.

There are some things you can check to ensure that the migration and the re-sync is still progressing and not stuck.

Click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen. Take note of the time and the number of files that are currently syncing—this will be displayed at the bottom of the window that appears.
Wait a while then repeat step 2. If the number of files that are syncing has reduced, then it may be worth waiting a little longer to see if the syncing completes.

Keep me posted!

Thank you for responding.

Dropbox is in MacHD > Users > [myname]

It has gone from 127,939 to 127,652 in about 40hrs, including overnight, twice, when there was no other demand on the internet here. There must be something wrong. It can't possibly take this long.

I can't use this machine until my files sync/index, so it's a big problem.

Update: I think it was the last OS sytem update that wasn't compatible.

I just updated it again and it seems to have resolved the problem as Dropbox is down to 65,041 files left to index. So it has really sped up.
Thanks for your help!
