Syncing problems after updating Dropbox desktop App on Mac M1

Syncing problems after updating Dropbox desktop App on Mac M1

After notification to switch to the latest version I downloaded v166.4.2920 on my MacMini (M1) OS 12.6 and later on my MacBook Pro (M1 Pro) OS 12.6. Now both showing the sync icon in the menu bar and say "indexing 7 files" (sometimes more or less). But no files I put in the folder get uploaded when I look them up online in the browser. I reinstalled the app on both computers two times, restarted several times. Dropbox has full access to disk - what's wrong?

Thanks and regards, silverface

Hi,

in my case the only solution was an OS Upgrade to Ventura. But not everybody has the Option as there might be expensive software that might not work on Ventura. But if can you, just do that!

All the best!

Hi,

Im actually already running Ventura, so unsure whats going on really...

It is still indexing - even after about 3 weeks,

Any ideas from people who work at dropbox?

Cheers

Hi @cpthorne, happy Monday!

In regards to your app still indexing, can you clarify the exact syncing status, and version you're using?

You can find your version by locating your Dropbox icon on your menu bar, next to your WiFi and hovering your mouse there.

Keep me posted!

Hi @cpthorne, thanks for the speedy response!

Following a migration to the new Dropbox for macOS, your files need to be re-synced. Depending on the amount of files you have in your Dropbox, this may take some time to complete. Do you have an approximate idea as to how many files you have in your Dropbox account?

Since you mentioned that the number of files has not reduced it might be worth checking out the troubleshooting steps outlined in this article. Keep in mind, that we do not recommend re-installing the application if the migration is still in progress.

Hi,

I estimate i have about 100,000 to 150,000 files in there, but i was under the impression that these were syncing as the numbers have steadily been reducing, but that was 3 weeks ago... for ages now ive had no numbers, just 'Indexing...'

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling > same problem

I have tried everything on that list, > same problem

3 weeks now i have had no syncing which is devastating for my business

I have been a dropbox customer for years now - about 8 years at least... please help me sort this out!!

Hey @cpthorne, thanks for the additional info.

Apart from reinstalling, can you also try the steps in this article, to see if they help?

I´ve got the same problem as the users above and obviously nothing helped.

Mac Studio M1 Ultra, McBook Air M1 -- same thing. Mac OS 13.2.1 (22D68) Ventura.

Updated Dropbox app 2 weeks ago, migrated Files to User/Library/CloudStorage

No sync since then, just stuck on "indexing" ....

Did the update on an IMac Pro (Intel), same OS Mac OS 13.2.1, but there it worked. Same Internet Connection.

Guess we´re not alone ...

Forgot to say: I´ve got like 60.000 files with 360 GB

Hi @wfroehlich, thanks for posting here!

It's a lot of files, so a slow syncing migration would be justified. However, you mentioned 2 weeks, which is a bit longer than expected.

Provided that you've tried all the steps mentioned in the Help Center article, that Hannah suggested above and nothing worked, could I send you an email, in order for us to have a closer look into this?

Let me know more!
