KDE Plasma 5 dropped support for the ancient systray icon protocol xembed, which Dropbox appears to be relying on.
Would it be possible to upgrade to a newer, still working solution for the Linux systray? As more distributions upgrade to Plasma 5, things will only get worse. Thanks!

This is the same issue discussed in https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/communities/public/questions/201896285-Top-bar-tray-icon-missing-Fed... - some potential incompatibilities & workarounds are discussed there (though nothing worked for me yet).
I am seeing this on Fedora 22 as well. I have tried the Dropbox 3.6.x stable and 3.7 unstable (which is worse as it reports incompatible QT).
This problem is present on kubuntu 15.04... the sistray icon is not working because of plasma 5 I guess. It would be great if you could fix that.
I'm using Kubuntu 15.04 and also affected by this bug.

I am on Kubuntu 15.04 and can report the same: Dropbox icon is missing from systray.
Same here on Ubuntu 15.04 with KDE.
Same here (openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE Plasma 5)
Same here (Fedora 22 KDE Plasma 5)
See new builds e.g. https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/204562695-Experimental-Build-3-9-32 and workaround suggested by Nicholas O which works fine for me on Fedora 22 KDE Plasma 5
