Unintended change to directories, including Music folder, when setting up the Desktop app

Unintended change to directories, including Music folder, when setting up the Desktop app

I was attempting to download and setup the latest version of Dropbox on my 2018 MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.5. I must have selected the wrong options because when Dropbox was done indexing files all the stuff that would normally be backed up were missing from my computer (downloads, documents, desktop, movies, music) and were online only. I was able to get the files back on my Mac via a Time Machine restore. I have plenty of room on my HD and don't need "online files only". What settings do I need to select to make sure this doesn't happen again? Thanks.

Hi @rws762,

Thanks for reaching out!

Glad to hear you restored what you needed to already.

When setting up the app, there's a choice to have the files default to either "Online" or "Offline".

You can right click a folder in Finder and change between online/offline there, too.

About the Backup feature (for downloads, documents, desktop and so on), if that's turned off, you can still choose whichever files you want to sync by moving those to the Dropbox folder as and when you want, instead

Give me a shout if you need anything else!
