After a recent update on my mac (running Catalina 10.15.7) the desktop app has stopped working. It appears in the application folder but when I doubleclick on it it quits before even opening. I have unistalled and reinstalled it multiple times, including using the directions for the advanced install. The Dropbox icon appears on the dock, but not in the menu bar. If I insist trying to open it, I also get an error messages saying "The application "Dropbox" is not open anymore".

Thank you for the suggestion, however, I had already tried installing using the link that you provided. I ran the installer again and this is the error message I get when I try to open the app on my computer.
I installed dropbox and reinstalled it from here.
I also took a screen videorecording trying to open the app, but it seems that I can't attach the video here because it's not a supported format (.mov). At the end, the app quit before I could enter my credential to sign in.
