iOS app/2 factor auth - How to request sms code when authenticator is not available?

iOS app/2 factor auth - How to request sms code when authenticator is not available?

I just replaced my iPhone and was unable to move my authenticator stuff over prior to another device seamlessly because I did not have access to another device. I know that on my Dropbox account, I have SMS and authenticator set up. If the authenticator app is unavailable, how can I request an SMS code to log in?

The issue is that Dropbox's support instructions did not work for me. I tried clicking "Having issues logging in" and the only options available to me were 'SSO login' or 'forgot password.' When prompted for the authenticator code, there was no alternative option to receive an SMS code. What can I do in the meantime to log into my Dropbox device??

And if I go to add Dropbox to my Authenticator app, it asks for a QR code from Dropbox.  Can I access that somewhere?

Hi @Scruffyy90, @Kimh0237, can you try using the emergency backup codes in order to regain access to your accounts?

Hey Jay, I tried that, but it will only take 6 digits (all numbers) (which is what the Authenticator app generates).  The back up codes have letters as well.  I DID find a work around today, I changed my security log in on Dropbox  (from one of my other devices) from Authenticator to text message verification and that got me back in.  I suppose I could now go back and add Dropbox to Authenticator but I was just so glad to be back in, for now that's going to have to do. Maybe this will help the other folks that have this problem. And note to self, apparently you need to transfer/import the Authenticator app saved websites to your new phone before trading it in! Not sure I even know how to do that. Who knew?
