Do I have to have team selective sync enabled to use it? Who does it apply to?

Hello,

I am a team admin and need to confirm if I understand correctly about team selective sync.

  1. If you DISABLE team selective sync by going Admin Console>Settings>Content>Sync, you won't be given an option to set existing folders and new folders to start unsynced. If you need to set those folders to start unsynced, you need to enable team selective sync on Admin Console first.
  2. If you set existing folders to start unsynced by going to ellipsis next to the team folder,  this will be applied to new members and also existing members who switch to a new computer but won't be applied other existing members.

Is this correct? I understand selective sync, but team selective sync is new to me.

Yes, if you disable team selective sync, you won’t get the option to create a default selective sync setting for your team. To have the relevant options available, you need to enable it.

The team selective sync feature is device-specific, not member specific. In other words, when you go to the Team folders tab through your Admin Console, you choose how certain folders in the team sync to new computers that (new and existing) members link to their accounts.

Hi Lusil,

Thank you so much for the information.

So if I create a NEW team folder and set it to start as unsynced, this will apply to all the members. In this case, it is not really device-specific. Is that correct?

It will apply to all members when they link their account to a computer for the first time. 
 
For example, if I join a Business team which has set folder A to start as unsynced, that setting will be applied once I log into my Business account on my computer for the first time. If the admin then chooses to set folder B as unsynced, that setting won’t be applied as folder B has already synced to my device.
