How to remove underscore in files and folders

How to remove underscore in files and folders

Gregory C.3

Two days ago, when I booted up my computer, all my Dropbox files and folders were underscored.   Dropbox support advise that this is because one or more of my files contain an incompatible character in their name or path.

I therefore use the following link

https://www.dropbox.com/bad_files_check

I ran the files check and received  a report:

“We didn’t find ay files or folders in your Dropbox that will cause syncing problems”.

Can you please advise how I can remove the underscore of all files and folders?

For example, is there any software that will address the incompatible characters ?

Thank you, Gregory

Hi Gregory, I’ve just checked your ticket on our end and can see that the agent has responded to you earlier referencing the community forum.

Regarding this matter, currently there isn’t any Dropbox software or app that can remove the underscores from your filenames.

However there might be some other third party apps that other users might be aware of which can help you out in this instance!

Hey there Gregory ( @Gregory C.3) - how are you today?

I just wanted to add my two cents on this one. Is it possible that you're on a Windows computer?

If so, and you're seeing that your files and folders are underlined (or underscored as you mentioned) but with no change on their names and paths it might be due to a specific folder setting (that's handled by your computer's OS of course, not Dropbox).

If that is indeed the case, you can remove the underline by following these steps:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Choose File Explorer Options (should be on Small icons view to see it).
  3. Under Click items as follows, click Underline icon titles only when I point at them or Double-click to open an item.
  4. Click Apply, then OK.

I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for but I hope this information helps.

Let us know of any updates!

Hi Walter

Thank you very much for sending me info on how to remove the underscore.  Fortunately, I had discovered this for myself a few days prior to your message.

Nevertheless, THANK YOU

Gregory
