Dropbox desktop app stuck in sync after installation, folder remains empty

Dropbox desktop app stuck in sync after installation, folder remains empty

Hi all, I recently changed my Windows 10 PC to a new Windows 11 PC and tried to re-install the Dropbox desktop app (which was working perfectly fine on the old one). I have no issue installing the desktop app but after installation, the syncing stays stuck and nothing ever shows up in the Dropbox folder.

I tried restarting the computer, removing and re-installing the app, clearing the cache, and all at once. I know it's neither an issue with file names being too long (as they were syncing perfectly fine on all my other devices) nor with storage space (as I set the selective sync to only one folder with a few Mb).  My network is good and I don't get any error message.

Thanks for your help!

Hi @VicKach, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Is it possible that you have more than 300,000 files on your Dropbox account, which could take time to sync?

When you reinstalled the app, did you perform an advanced reinstallation?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi @Jay,

I use the selective sync to sync only one small folder so that is not it.

I noticed something weird: the Dropbox account I have issue with is my professional Dropbox. However, my personal Dropbox is syncing perfectly well, through the same desktop app! No idea what could be the difference between the syncing of both accounts.

I did not do an advanced reinstallation but I can try. Could you send me the process please? When I follow your link, nothing happens when I click on Windows, Mac or Linux, so I can't read what should be done.

Thanks!

When you say professional account, are you referring to a Dropbox Business account, since there isn't another method to have both personal and work accounts syncing at the same time?

Hi @jay

Yes indeed it is a Dropbox business account.

Update: I did'nt do anything but two days after I opened the issue, the folder ended up syncing. In the meantime, I had tried syncing other folders and the only one that ended up not syncing is the one that was shared with others; I don't know if that can be related to the issue?

So I don't know what fixed it but all is fine now!

Thanks
