Re: Files available in the cloud only

Files available in the cloud only

Hi,

The other day I noticed that all of my files were only in the cloud. I looked at the settings to see if something was changed, and as I expected, all sync settings were fine. I clicked on the "cloud" symbols next to the folder names, and everything was downloaded. A couple of hours later same thing. I did it again. So far I've done this 5-6 times, always with the same result; files eventually aren't physically on my drive. I looked at the space on my hard disk, thinking that Dropbox does this automatically when it senses that storage is getting low on the hard drive, but that is not the case. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Thank you!

Could you try right clicking the folders and choosing 'Make available offline', does this help keep them on your machine?

Hi @korisnik, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive physically?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi Jay,

Currently, I have about 12.5% of free space, or 63 GB out of 500 GB.

Hi @korisnik, sorry for jumping in here.

Did the syncing status of your files/folders change after an update on your device/Dropbox app perhaps? When did you notice this behavior exactly?

Hi Nancy,

I cannot tell you the exact date, but this is not more than 2-3 weeks old. I have not made any updates to my OS. As a side note, I have another OS-X device, a MacBook laptop running OS Catalina 10.15.7. On that machine, everything is OK. Both machines are running the same version of Dropbox (166.4.2920).

Thank you

Yes, Jay, that did it! My apologies for wasting your time. I should have been able to figure out this on my own. Besides restarting the machine and manually downloading everything, I didn't dig much deeper. In any case, I thank you for your time and your help, I really appreciate it.

Cheers!

That solution only locks down the files that were available at that time. If there is a new file, the user has to manually download that file. If files change constantly, a user has to manually download files repeatedly. I have the same issue. Dropbox made some type of change a few months ago. My dropbox was working fine. Now I have to download files from the cloud to access them every time I have a new file, which is often. They are not automatically downloaded like they were previously.

Any help?
