Share folders

Share folders

When I create links to share a folder with a client, they get a Request Permission to Access notice every time. I used to be able to share folders with clients where they could download files without requesting permission. I've also noticed when I create a share link, a building icon appears on the folder that I am sharing.

Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

Hey @Cicastel, thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to our Community!

It sounds like instead of sharing a folder with your client directly, you're trying to share a link to a team folder (based on the building icon you mentioned).

This would result in the message you mentioned if your client is not part of your team account.

That said, can you clarify if you're a member of the team or a team admin?

Have you tried creating a new folder, copying any content you'd like to share with your client there and try sharing it with your client from there, be it via a shared link or by adding them to the folder as a member?

Keep me posted!

Hi Walter,

I'm a member of the team. However, when the rest of my coworkers share links to a team folder with clients, they are able to access the files without requesting permission.

Hope this helps clarify!

Hi @Cicastel! Hope it’s OK to jump in.

Are you sure that the folders they’re sharing with clients are also team folders and not shared folders instead? Do these folders also have a folder icon with a building on it?

Hi Nancy,

The more help the better! Yes, all the folders on the Dropbox browser have the building icon on it.

Hey @Cicastel, I'll be jumping in here too, if that's alright!

Would it be possible to send us a screenshot of this "request permission" notice your client is getting, so we can have a visual of the situation as well?

Just make sure to hide any personal info that will be on the screenshot.

Hi Hannah,

Unfortunately, our team admin deleted those emails and I haven't sent out any shared links since this issue started happening. Let me try to share a link with someone at the office (outside of the team folder) and see if I can get that email for you all to reference.
