Accidentally Deleted Account and Data - Need Help Restoring

Accidentally Deleted Account and Data - Need Help Restoring

Annafi

Hi Dropbox Community,

I accidentally deleted my account associated with the email address [removed per Community Guidelines], along with all the data stored in it. These files are very important to me, and I’m seeking assistance on how to restore both the account and the data.

Could anyone guide me through the process of recovering my deleted account and its contents? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Best regards,

Hi Annfi, To confirm if you have indeed deleted your account, if you can click this link : www.dropbox.com/login and when you enter your email address, if it asks for a password it means your account is still recoverable, however if it asks you to create or set up an account, it means that your account was deleted after all. And to set expectations about what happens to your files or your account in general when the account is deleted, please see info below:

When you delete your Dropbox account:

  • You’ll no longer be able to access your account or restore it after it’s been deleted.
  • You’ll be logged out of Dropbox on all devices.
  • Your account and file data will be deleted.
  • Your files and folders will stop syncing on all devices. Content synced to your computer will stay there, but will no longer sync.
  • Your files in private folders will be deleted from Dropbox servers. All content is non-recoverable as soon as you delete your account.
  • Your files in shared folders will still be accessible by members in those shared folders, but you’ll no longer be able to access or edit those files.

Please let us know if you need help. Thank you.

There's no way to restore the files that were attached? The documents are super important and I need the documents back 😥

Hi Annafi, unfortunately Dropbox can't recover deleted accounts, but let me know if you need help with recovering any files within the 30-day window!

Hello,

While losing the account is not too severe, the documents are extremely important. Is there a way to recover them? I deleted the account today, and the other linked profiles still have access to the folders, but unfortunately, all the documents from the folders are gone.

Thank you.

Sorry for jumping in, @Annafi. Since restoring the deleted documents would require access to the Dropbox account in question, I’m afraid there’s not much that can be done in this case.

If you deleted your Dropbox account, then it’s not possible to restore it or any of the files/folders that were located within it.

Feel free to check your computer(s) though, in case you had the Dropbox desktop app installed. If your files were synced there, then you may be able to access them from your local Dropbox folder.
