Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
Hi clever people,
I would like to use Dropbox like an external hard drive.
What this means is I would like to move all my videos off my iPhone, into Dropbox and then use them in Final Cut Pro.
I do NOT want the files on my computer as I only have 250gig MacBookAir.
Is this possible WITHOUT having to constantly set files to cloud only/local/etc like other storage "solution" technologies?
I am NOT looking to use Dropbox to back up my Air, I just want to put the files directly into Dropbox instead of hard drives which I currently have to carry everywhere I go if I want to edit using videos from the past.
Looking forward to your feedback, thank you!

No. Any file you open will be downloaded to your computer and marked as Local, and will remain that way until you mark it as Online-only again. Without using a third-party service as a go-between, such as CloudMounter, there are no cloud storage services that I know of that operate the way you want.

I guess my next step would be to determine whether there are thumbnail previews available in online only mode
This is a folder I have that's marked as Online-only, and all thumbnails are available. It can take time to load them while scrolling for a very large folder, but they do appear.
