Can't sync a folder someone shared with me

Can't sync a folder someone shared with me

Help, please -- Someone shared a folder with me. On the web, I can see the folder under shared folders. I added the folder. But when I go to my Mac Finder, the folder isn't there. And the only place it is on the web is in the list of shared folders. Everything else is syncing okay, except this folder. The only way to access it is through the web.

Parameters: 1. I do have enough space left. 2. I did install the latest dropbox app. 3. I have a Macbook Pro, running Catalina.

Any help would be appreciated.

ENIGMA SOLVED!!!!

It sturns out the file folder WAS added to my Macbook. But it went in as a subfolder to a really obscure folder, which I almost never go into. It was pure luck that I went into that folder this morning, and lo and behold, saw my clients' folder as a subfolder to it.

I've now moved it to where it's supposed to be.

No idea how that happened.

Thank you so much for your patience in trying to help me figure this out.

Susan

Hi @sdetwiler; welcome to our Community and sorry to hear about your syncing issue.

If your desktop app is showing that it's up to date within your computer's menu bar, you might have selectively unsynced this folder through the app's preferences.

Let me know what you find!

Hi Walter - thanks for the reply. I had already tried to find the sync preferences but couldn't find the preferences button. I've downloaded the app several times, and opened it up several times. When I click on my avatar, all I get is my name.....no preferences. If I click on the elipses for 'more' all I get is options for sharing. I don't know how to get preferences.

If I go up to the menu bar at the top, and click on dropbox, I see preferences, and the tab for sync. Every single folder I have is there, and checked......EXCEPT the folder that was shared with me. So it's not even there for me to either check or not check to sync.

sigh

Thanks for the additional information @sdetwiler!

Since you can't find this folder under your sync tab through the app's preferences (these can be accessed via your menu bar and not from our new desktop experience as you found out), could it be that it hasn't been added to your account yet?

Can you take a look at your sharing tab and let me know if you see an option to add this folder back to your account from there?

Yes, it's in the list of shared folders. I know I added it when I was first invited to the folder.  It's the folder called Dor Hadash Strategic Planning Documents, the one at the top of the list.  [and yes, I know I haven't added the Board folder. ]

Quite an enigma! Fortunately, I can access the folder through the web, so I can keep working. 🙂

I don't see an issue with the characters of the folder's name to be honest @sdetwiler

Don't you get an option to 'Add' this folder to your account when you click on the ellipsis button shown on the right?
