DELETED ALL FILES, OR JUST......... ??

peteh303

Hi, im a basic user but my account says im using 14GB of 6Gb storage. I remember i used to upgrade a package that is no longer available now. Then i stopped paying and i guess my account got downgraded? I have dropbox synced on my Mac and PC.

So the issue now is that i want to update my Mac and it requires a lot of free storage. I need to delete all files on my dropbox on Mac in order to do so. By doing that, are my files will still be available on both on dropbox.com and my PC? Or will it all get deleted as well? This is the part im confused and concerned.

Please help you dear internet citizens.

The desktop PC can be left alone, since only the Mac is being affected.

By signing out on the Mac, and uninstalling it for good measure, you're preventing any possibility that the reformat would delete files on your Dropbox account itself.

Hi @peteh303, thanks for messaging the Community!

If you delete files from the Dropbox folder, and the Dropbox desktop application is running, it would delete the files from the site itself and then from other connected devices.

Could you let know how many devices you have connected to your account?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi there thanks for the reply.

As of now it says my dropbox folder stopped syncing all the time.

I only have 2 device connected to my account, on my Mac and my PC.
The concern now is that i want to basically re-format my Mac.

Thanks for the info, you can sign out of your Dropbox account in the desktop app, uninstall the app as well, and then proceed with reformatting the Mac device.

Once that is done, you can reinstall the app and sign back into your account to let the files sync down from the site.

Hi Jay, thanks for the tip.

Im assuming that you're saying that i can sign out of my Dropbox account on my Mac, uninstall the app, and reformatting the Mac, right?

Is there anything i should do with Dropbox on my Desktop PC? Or I can just leave it as it is?
