Deleted old account, started new one but all the files in my desktop have disappeared!

Hello everyone,

I created a Dropbox account yesterday (the basic one) and since I had no idea what I was doing, I allowed the back up/sync of my computer files on Dropbox, so of course I ran out of space. I tried to delete the single folders but I wasn't able to do it, so I deleted the account. I got an email saying that my account was deleted and the files were deleted from dropbox but not from my computer, but now my computer desktop is empty and I can't seem to find my files anywhere. I found just the recent ones but nothing more. Could anyone please help? I'm panicking!

Hello @Vazusa, thanks for checking in with us. 

Generally, when you delete your Dropbox account, you won't be able to access your files from the website anymore, but the Dropbox folder should remain and become like any other regular folder on your computer. 

Have you tried manually searching for the files you're missing locally via Finder/File Explorer? 

Could they be hidden in your Dropbox folder?

I checked if my files are in the Dropbox folder on my desktop, but when I click on it, it says that it's impossible to open the folder because they cannot find the original item of my Dropbox files (sorry if it makes little sense, I translated the message from Italian.)

I can find the files on Finder, but they are all mixed up and not divided in folders like they originally were, so I'm not sure if they are all there or not. 😞

Could you send us a screenshot of the error message that you mention?
