Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
If I copy a file and save it in a second location/folder for temporary reference but also leave it in its original location and then delete the version I used temporarily, does it delete the original version as well if they have the same file name?
I often pull a collection of examples to support a new project and want to have them in one place while I work on the new project. I delete the example files once I have don't need them any longer for the new project. When Dropbox asks if I want to delete a document "everywhere" would that include deleting the original version in its original location? My intention is to remove just the dupes I saved to reference temporarily in a new project folder so I don't have multiple copies but I want to make sure saying "yes" to deleting everywhere doesn't mean also deleting other copies of the same document that live in a different file/folder.
Is it searching by name and deleting all matches or just deleting that specific copy?
Does the question make sense? Thanks for any insight.
Hi @jneuman
No, if you delete a file in one location it wont delete in another location.
The comment around removing them everywhere is because they'll be removed from the website and all other connected computers (in that location you deleted).

Thanks Mark!
I was hoping that was the case. I appreciate the quick response and insight!
