Document File Locked in DropBox

Document File Locked in DropBox

DennisHBK
Explorer | Level 3

Using an iMac. My Document folder used to just be in the directory /Users/imac/My Mac (iMacs-iMac.local)/Documents", but some how, most likely something I did, has them in the directory of /Users/imac/Dropbox/My Mac (iMacs-iMac.local)/Documents"
I'm actually trying to delete DropBox from my Mac, but doing so sends all of my Documents to the Trash Bin, thus it empties my "Document" Folder.  I can't figure out how to remove "Dropbox" from the directory chain.

Hi @DennisHBK, welcome to our Community!

It seems that you've accidentally enabled our Computer backup feature. Don't worry!

Here are the steps you can follow in order to disable it.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you for your reply, at this point it is telling me "it can not Stop the Back up"
I was getting an error message saying that "My Mac (iMacs-iMac.local)" could not be found, but it is in the directory.  I just want to delete Drop Box and have my files not tied to it.

Hi @DennisHBK, are you still getting the error message saying that the backup can't be stopped when trying to disable the computer backup feature?

Hey @DennisHBK, how are you today?

Can you let me know the app's  syncing status, along with its version?

It's the same, DropBox is saying it can not stop the back up.

Happy Tuesday, Dennis! I hope you're doing well.

Can you provide me with the precise syncing status and version of the app, please, since it's a really vital part of our troubleshooting in order to identify why this might be happening?

Have you tried restarting the device too? Lastly, can you clarify if you restored the deleted content that you mentioned deleting before?

Below is the details on the Dropbox App

I'm not sure on the Sync Status, but I did find this, it is showing 33 Errors

I had to restore the dropbox file I deleted as all my documents feel under it's directory chain. That was the only way to get them back. This is what my Documents Directory now looks like:

I'm wanting to do a clean install of Monterey on a SSD, but I will not be able to copy over my document files from DropBox to a fresh document file in Monterey,,,I think. Would it be possible to download those files from DropBox on to a fresh file?

Hi @DennisHBK, thank you for the screenshots!

The syncing status is not visible in any of them, but it seems the Document content is still syncing.

If I was to guess, I believe that if you're using a basic account, enabling the feature would have made your account full, hence the constant syncing state.

If you still get the same error in regards to stopping the backup, let me know if I could send you an email in order for us to have a closer look into this.
