DropBox Corporation hijacked my photos without permission - they filled all my free space.

DropBox Corporation hijacked my photos without permission - they filled all my free space.

DropBox Corporation hijacked my photos without permission - they filled all my free space, and I cannot delete them. I've been bombarded for months with solicitations to upgrade. The free version of DropBox was more than adequate to fill my rare needs to use DropBox. I pretty much only got on it at the request of others to use it to send me files. I request that my hijacked photos be removed. These are my property, not the property of this corporation. If you are reading this, you too likely went into this Valley that DropBox created to prevent communication by phone or e-mail with a live person.

Hi @EdN; thanks for joining the Community and sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

As I'm not sure what the issue is here, may I ask what exactly is not working for you?

If you're getting any specific errors, I'd appreciate a screenshot so I can have a visual of the matter too.

Thanks!

My free DropBox account served my needs to take the small volumes of materials that others who asked me to get a DropBox account sent to me. Then, suddenly, I started getting notices that the capacity for that account was exceeded and solicitations to buy more space (go from free service to subscribe to something I never needed). I looked into my folder and was surprised to see all my personal photos were in there filling it. When I tried to delete them, I could not. I just want my d----d photos out of DropBox. I never put them in there to begin with. There's no need for a screen shot. Just get my photos out of your DropBox system. I never put them there.

Thanks for the additional information @EdN

I can't be sure how those files ended up in your account and we can't delete files from any account from our end.

Can you perhaps find any more information about those files being added in your events page? This is the place where all uploads, edits and deletions are normally logged so it should give you a hint.

Apart from that, can you clarify if you're getting any specific errors when trying to delete those files?

In that case, could you send me a screenshot so I can have a look before I can advise further?

Thanks, Walter I am busy now with some projects, but I'll try to visit DropBox. If I just delete my DropBox account, will that purge the photos that are mine from your corporation that does not own them? Thanks for attending to this.

@EdN - I know you're extremely eager to get your personal pics off Dropbox.  I can totally understand why.

I am not sure if you have considered/fixed this, but I hope the info below will help.  I am not affiliated with Dropbox, I'm just an avid user, and a counselor with a tech background. I like helping to resolve problems.

When you install Dropbox, there is an option to 'auto upload' files (including images) from your device/folders.  You can turn these off.  Also, files can be deleted in dropbox either on your device or on the website.

I get that you're angry and horrified (understandably).  And - It's hard to fix anything angry.  Do you have someone with some tech saavy that can help you?  If not - I can help - and I would be willing to give you 30min free support to find out your next steps and/or fix the problem.  We can use Zoom, you can show me what you're looking at, and I can guide you through the steps. You can reach me by email at support at liftnibbles dot com.

In any case, I'm sorry for the horror and shock you experienced.  With a tool as complex as Dropbox, it's easy to overlook details and get confused about how to manage issues.  But it can be resolved easily, I believe.

Hopefully this will make your life easier.
