Dropbox Deleted My Files

Dropbox Deleted My Files

Dropbox had been telling me for some time that my storage was full, and it stopped syncing. I haven’t interacted with Dropbox in months, but just now I logged in, and I found that all of my files were deleted—not by me—in October of last year. I had lots of pictures and videos that are now just gone. I was never warned that Dropbox would completely clear my storage, so I wasn’t able to retrieve them in 30 days. Are they just gone for good now?

Unfortunately if its over the 30 days, yes, its not possible to recover them if you were, when they were deleted, a free user.

Does www.dropbox.com/events show its over 30 days?

Yes, events shows it was over 30 days. How does Dropbox have the right to delete my files with neither warning nor notification? Why would anyone want to purchase their premium services when they do that to free users? I had irreplaceable photos and videos and they never even notified me that my files would be deleted due to inactivity. I am furious, and you can guarantee that I will never use Dropbox again. I hope Dropbox staff sees this. I want my files back; if they can't fix this atrocity, I'll ensure that everyone I know is aware of Dropbox's shady dealings with their users.

Dropbox hasnt deleted them, sorry. Something else has.

If you can see that the files are deleted on www.dropbox.com/events then that is NOT Dropbox which has done it - Dropbox doesnt do that. Somebody/something else has. Dropbox would close an inactive account completely if its not used but wouldnt do a deletion like that.

If they are showing on events as deleted then they've been deleted from a connected device/the website. Note that its simply not possible to get them back via Dropbox I'm afraid - you'll need to see if they are on any connected devices or via any backups you have.
