I couldn't open a folder (created in the Dropbox Folder on my laptop) in my Dropbox folder on my Desktop so I tried 'open with' and chose the Dropbox app. This somehow seems to have created an alias/link to the Dropbox app, but I still couldn't get into the folder. So I removed the alias/link, and now the folder shows up a document not a folder. How do I let Dropbox (or Finder on my Mac where all this is happening) that it is a folder? Have I lost everything??
Hi Walter - thank you for the reply. It's all fixed now. The issue, I think, was that when I switched from personal to business Dropbox, I thought I 'moved' a folder with subfolders etc. into the new Dropbox folder, but what I actually did apparently, somehow, was move it somewhere local on my laptop and what I thought was the folder in Dropbox was an alias to the local folder. When I tried to access it from my Desktop, of course it couldn't find anything. Somehow in all that, the aliased folder showed up in Dropbox as a 'file.' I'm on Mac systems, and my linux sysadmin husband figured out all this out and found the original 'moved'/aliased folder on my laptop. When I posted this cry for help, I didn't realize the aliasing issue.
I really appreciate your offer to help; if I hadn't married my tech support, I'd still be in need of it!
Hi @CarolineSimpson; welcome to the Community and happy Monday!
I'm not quite sure what happened here; could you post a screenshot of how this looks like on your end so I can have a visual?
While we're at it, can you also let me know what's the desktop app reporting within your computer's menu bar? Is it 'Up to date' or syncing perhaps?
Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there Caroline!

Thanks for keeping me in the loop Caroline!
After all, that's what husbands are for; ain't it?
Joking aside, I'm glad you managed to sort this out in the end and I'm always a post away if you have any more questions in the future!
Cheers
Walter
