Dropbox after Restoring Hard Drive

Dropbox after Restoring Hard Drive

Helpful | Level 6

I use Acronis True Image to backup my Hard Drive (SSD).  I exclude the Dropbox folder from the backup since I have the files in DB.

I need to replace my hard drive and restore the True Image backup to the new drive.  I went ahead and unlinked (disconnected) the computer from my DB account under the DB settings on the web.  When I restore the image dropbox will be there but not the files.

Since I already unlinked the computer on the DB settings, do I need to do anything or will the server prevent the computer from synching?  I am concerned that if it sees an empty DB folder files will get deleted off DB.  Once I do the drive restore, I plan on uninstalling DB, delete the DB folder, and reinstall DB and setup again.

I appreciate any comments and suggestions.

Hi @Rinconman, thanks for posting on our Community and happy Monday!

You don't need to do anything else since you've already unlinked your computer from your account's security page.

Once you're done with restoring your hard drive you'll be able to reinstall the app normally and let it sync your files.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks.  I have dropbox for business, so when I unlinked the account I selected delete files from computer.

After the restore, the dropbox app should be running on startup.

After the restore, there should be no files since I excluded those form the backup.

Will the Dropbox app make sure the files and folder are deleted since I selected that in the unlink settings?

I plan on uninstalling the app after just to make sure all temp files are also deleted.  I basically want it to be seen as a new install.

Sorry to jump in here, @Rinconman.

If you unlinked your computer from your security page and also checked the box to delete the Dropbox files the next time the computer comes online, the Dropbox folder should be deleted along with the files inside.

If however, the Dropbox folder itself remains, you're safe to manually delete it yourself, so that when you reinstall the application, it will be a brand new installation.

Changes to an unlinked Dropbox folder, do not sync to your account anyway.
