Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
Just wondering how Dropbox works. When I edit a file, is it placed in the 'deleted files' and my new edited file placed in Dropbox? I'm finding files in the 'Events' tab of files that I did not delete. Actually, there are several that I have not touched that have been deleted. Can I tell by machine which machine deleted a file? Just trying to find out if one of my computers has a virus that could be randomly deleted.
Any help out there? Anything would be appreciated!!!!!

No. Files are only placed in Deleted Files when they're deleted. Past edits are simply part of a file's version history.

Restore the file and then look at its version history. You'll see Edited by with the word Desktop shown below the person's name. Hover your cursor over Desktop and it will show the name of the computer.
Restored it, it has no previous version info, just that I am the owner.
Am I to be worried about everyone that is stating that their files are missing, like mine???
Been in networking for many years, never seen random files being deleted.

In most cases when a person comes here asking why their files are all missing, it's because they haven't used their account for more than a year and it was deleted due to inactivity. When they sign in with the same information, Dropbox recreates their account, but now it's a new, empty account with no event history.
If random files are being deleted from an account, then something is deleting them. Dropbox doesn't, and can't, delete files like that on its own. Either you, another service running on your computer, or someone else with access to the files has to be causing the deletions.

Can you take a screenshot of the version history page for one of the files? Be sure to mask any private information.
We use this for business and access it everyday. So unless it's deleting FILES we haven't accessed in a while that isn't the case.
Are these the screen shots you want?
Hi @Brightpromo
No, you need to post the version information from the Dropbox website by finding the file and clicking on the three ....'s next to it and selecting Previous Version.
www.dropbox.com/events would also be a good one to look at

To add to what Mark mentioned, the Previous Versions tab in the Properties window you posted is a Windows function, not Dropbox, and it will only work if you have Shadow Copies enabled in Windows. It's a great feature, when set up properly and if you have the extra disk space to support it.
