How can I get my files back on my laptop?

After installing Dropbox on request of a client, I lost every single file on my laptop. How do I get it back. How dare you take advantage of uninformed users.

Hi @BELLS, thanks for messaging today.

 

I'm sorry to hear about this matter. It sounds like you enabled the automatic computer backup feature in the Dropbox desktop application. Could you first try disabling the computer backup from Dropbox using the steps in the above article to see if this helps?

 

Afterwards, you can move the folders and files back to their previous locations, which will also delete them from the Dropbox account online.

 

If there are any deleted files, try recovering them from the Dropbox site.

 

If the missing files weren’t syncing to your account, then it wouldn’t be possible to recover them from the site. However, it might be possible to recover the files from the local machine from the recycle bin, or using a third party app or service to do so.

Files and folder contents disappeared from both pc and Dropbox.

Could someone please help. I lost all my most important client files from both pc and Dropbox after installing Dropbox on my pc. It happened even before I could change settings. When trying to open folder on pc, it says files have been moved, when I open Dropbox, the folder is empty. I have lost 3 days of business due to this. Now I have a bigger problem, my pc takes 30 minutes now to startup, buffers endlessly and I cannot get anywhere. I have no deleted files, not in Dropbox and not on my PC. How do I restore the files within those folders.

Hi Jay, I do not have a backup option under Preferences. Only language, date format, auto time zone, early releases, who view my profile, manually added contacts, smart sync update for Mac, thats all
