How can I secure a dropbox before computer goes into repair shop?

How can I secure a dropbox before computer goes into repair shop?

I need to bring my Imac into shop for repair. Repair involves account admin access to Imac. It will also involve replacing existing HDD with SDD. What is the best way to protect my dropbox against file tampering or inspection? I don't really have any sensitive files and I trust the shop I'm going to. But still I would rather remove the risk.

I have done a search and I'm guessing the best thing to do is:

1) Unlink device

2) Confirm device is unlinked

3) Delete local files

However I do not want deletion of files to synch to dropbox. I assume if I unlink before deleting that they won't synch?

If I install a new dropbox in new SDD I assume I will get back all the files still in dropbox?

Hi @mastov,

Yes, those steps are correct and will make your files off. Make sure (in addition) you have permanently removed your files from trash! Could be performed additional actions to make sure files recovering is impossible, but since you "don't really have any sensitive files", described should be enough.

Yes, that's correct. Once the application gets unlink, no any change could propagate (including deletions). All files, successfully got in sync to Dropbox will, gets in sync with any other application instance (that would be) linked to your account (including the case you have described).

Hope this clarifies matter.
