How to disable external hard drive syncing?

How to disable external hard drive syncing?

concerro

I recently gained access to an old hard drive, and attached it to my computer through an external hard drive case. The old hard drive also had a dropbox folder. I want to remove this dropbox folder, but I've noticed it's also synced to my Dropbox account.

Is there a way to remove this folder without it affecting my dropbox files?

Would reformatting the hard drive work, assuming there is no way to just delete the entire dropbox folder on the old hard drive with it affecting my current dropbox account?

Hi @concerro, how are you today?

Do you by any chance refer to the Computer backup feature we have? If so, feel free to have a look in this Help Center article on how to remove it.

Keep me posted on the results!

No, that's not what I was talking about.

My previous laptop stopped working a few months ago, but it still has some files on it that I wanted. I took the hard drive from the broken laptop and put it inside a hard drive enclosure. I think I should be able to just format the old hard drive. That should be ok.

Hi @concerro!

As long as the desktop app, isn't actively syncing to that drive, you should be okay indeed. You can check the current path of your Dropbox folder by following these steps

If you need anything else, let me know.
