How to remove files from Dropbox without deleting them locally?

How to remove files from Dropbox without deleting them locally?

Let's say I create a folder inside the local Dropbox folder on my Mac and start storing files there.  A year from now I decide that I no longer want that folder to be synched up to (i.e. stored) on Dropbox.  Instead, I want that folder to only be available on my Mac.  Do I simply drag that folder out of the Dropbox folder to any other location on my Mac?

And to take it one step further, if I drag that folder into my local Documents folder, and I've configured Dropbox Backup to backup my Documents folder, then this new folder will be backed up to Dropbox even though it is no longer stored on Dropbox?  Thanks.

Hey @Robert F.41, thanks for posting on our Community!

You're correct, you'll just need to move the folder out of your Dropbox folder to another location on your computer and let the desktop app sync until it's 'up to date' in your menu bar.

And yes, the folder will then be backed up by Dropbox, in case you're moving it to an already backed up folder, like the Documents folder.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
