Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I cannot change the read only settings. I right click on drop box folder, unclick the read only bottom, I select apply, then ok and read only becomes unchecked but then when I go back in to check the setting, it is changed back to read only. I notice numerous people are having the same problem and one solution the community suggested was to go into profile, preference or settings and then account. Hold down Alt+H keys. Tried this but when I go into my account settings I do not see a preference or options. I am using windows 11. My other users that I shared folders with edit access are very frustrated and I cannot resolve the problem. I have read through all the related posts on the community site and all solutions provided have failed and seem to have failed for the people that are also trying to address this issue. Any suggestions?
Hey @miverson1, thanks for taking the time to post to our Community.
Would you mind clarifying what you'd like to accomplish here?
Are you trying to change someone's sharing permissions on a shared folder?
And are you the owner of the folder? If so, you can do that by following the steps here.
Let me know if this helped, or if I misunderstood your issue.

Thanks for responding Hannah. I am trying to provide edit access to other people that I have shared a folder with. I have shared the folder with edit access for everyone, however not everyone can edit or add documents. In most cases people can see only my documents or edits along with their own but they cannot see edits or comments from others. When I look in properties on my side, I see the permissions are read only and I cannot unclick it as it goes back to being checked as read only when I exit and return. Everyone's status shows that they can edit. Please help. Thanks
Thanks for the update here.
The permissions shown in the properties of the folder locally, don't really have to do with Dropbox.
You're able to edit the folder on your end, right? And see the changes made by everyone?
And is it possible that the people that can't edit the folder or see changes, have free Dropbox accounts and don't have enough space in their accounts to do so?
Because shared folders do take up space in each member's account, so they'd need enough and even more, to be able to sync the changes.
