HELP!

I'm not sure what happened or what the problem is. All I know is that dropbox began syncing files (that I did not want) and now everything is missing from my PC and inside the sync folder. I would like to restore the missing files. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Hey @abri, thanks for reaching out to us about this.

It sounds like our computer backup feature was enabled on your desktop app, which backs up the Desktop/Downloads/Documents folders to your Dropbox folder.

If you don't want to use it, you can turn it off by following these steps and then move the files to their original locations.

Let me know if you have any trouble along the way, thanks!

I tried looking and it's empty. Now I'm trying to recover my files but the location is in the dropbox cache. Is there a way to recover it from there?

Thanks for getting back to me, @abri

Although there's not much we can recommend about recovering files from the cache folder, you can have a look via a web browser for some suggestions on how to do this.

I also wanted to mention that if you don't see the files in your Dropbox folder or the original locations on your computer, could they possibly be in your deleted files tab?

I checked, nothing is there. 😞

I'm sorry to hear that, @abri

Could you have a look at your events page as well for any additional information regarding these files?

If you don't find anything, could you check if the desktop app is still trying to sync or if it's up to date?
