Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I accidentally synced my work folder's dropbox to my computer and it has taken up nearly all of my storage space (3TB). I realized that I could just use the dropbox web browser rather than syncing the whole folder to my computer and would now like to delete the folder from my computer and get back that storage space. However, I am worried that in doing so I will also delete all of the information in that folder for everyone else. Help, please!
Hi @parkelil,
Yes, if you delete something residing in Dropbox folder (or some subfloder within), the same thing will disappear everywhere, since Dropbox is sync services. In your case may be convenient Selective Sync usage. Just deselect all folders you don't want to reside on your machine and in same time you can keep some of them (of your choice) for more convenient usage than accessing through web browser only. 😉
Hope this gives useful directions.
storage. I tried to download and install the Dropbox app, which on my other computer allowed me to access the files and folders in Dropbox from File Explorer.
I don't think that the Dropbox app was properly installed, perhaps it was blocked because of windows 11 running in S mode. I'm not entirely sure how to get out of S mode although I've looked it up on the web but it appears I need to have my windows certificate of authenticity number in order to change the setting and I'm going to look into that further.
I do have what appears to be the Dropbox app in File Explorer, but it only allows me access to a limited number of files and not to any of the main folders and files on Dropbox.
Can anyone tell me if running the computer in S mode is blocking the proper installation of the Dropbox app, and /or assist me in setting up that app so I have access to my files in the cloud?
Thanks!
Thanks for the link, but been there done that and I don't get an opportunity to "Get" in the Microsoft Store as described in the article. I somehow tried to do it and I got a message that I wasn't running S mode, but I don't know how to verify that or check what OS I'm running. I bought this as a returned computer from Best Buy, so maybe the first person disconnected S Mode, but I don't know how to check....
Hey @ctjester, thanks for reaching out to us.
Do you have a Dropbox icon in your system tray? If so, can you please click on it and then click on the folder icon next to your initials/profile pic?
This should open your Dropbox folder in file explorer. Do you see your files there?
