Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I want to stop Dropbox syncing with some files on my hard disc. That will allow me to delete files from Dropbox but keep tham on my hard disc. Is this possible?
Hi @JOHN HOWKINs, thanks for messaging the Community!
Currently, it isn't possible to delete files from the Dropbox site without them deleting from your local machine, as the changes would be synced instantly.
However, if you're looking to do this, then you can move the files or folders out of the Dropbox folder, which will delete them from the site, and keep the files on the machine.
Hope this helps!

Speaking os Sync..
I just updated a new version of dropbox on my mac. As soon as I opened it, I noticed that dropbox was syncing everything that exists onmy mac and it quickly occupied all the available space.
How can i stop it? I don't want dropbox to sync everything that is on my mac.
thank you
Dropbox doesn't allow me to do this. If I move a file out of Dropbox, I get a message that Dropbox will delete it from all devices. The message is clear that any files removed will not be available on Dropbox or on any device.
I take that to mean that Dropbox will delete it not only from Dropbox but from my hard drive on all my devices. So as my Dropbox fills up with unwanted stuff, it refuses to sync the stuff I do want.
