Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
On Linux dropbox now has the functionality to "exclude" or "ignore" folders. The first is supposed to prevent syncing from cloud to local and the second local to cloud. (See https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/restore-delete/ignored-files and https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/desktop/linux-commands)
I want to use the second in order to prevent some large files that do not need to be backed up (but are in the same folders as things tha do need to get backed up) from being uploaded.
Is this possible?
I added the ignore attribute already using
attr -s com.dropbox.ignored -V 1 file_path
but I did not get back any space? Should I now delete these files from the cloud using the webbrowser? Will that leave the local copies alone since I added the ignored tag?
Thanks. It turns out that it was already being removed from the cloud without me doing it manually it just took some time. So yay, it is working. This is a great new feature of dropbox!

Did your account fall in overquota state already? If yes, you should use the web browser.

It should, but better be careful - move it for a moment outside Dropbox folder. Just you to be sure.
Hope this helps.
