Problems to restore a folder

Problems to restore a folder

Corina Ae
Explorer | Level 3

I share a folder with around 15 other people. This morning the folder had disapeared and we don't know who deleted it. We've tried to restore the folder. However, when we search for it, it is listed, but when we click on "Restore" an error message appears. In German: "Hoppla! Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten. Versuchen Sie es bitte später noch einmal." This message does not change.

Is there any possibility to restore this folder in another way?

Thank you for your support!

Corina

Thanks for posting here @Corina Ae!

Can you let me know what actions you see for this shared folder in your Events page here?

Also, if you check in your Sharing tab here, are you able to see and add back the folder from there?

Let me know what you find!

Hi Daphne

Thank you for your quick reply.

No unfortunately I can't find the folder in the two overviews you mentioned. The name of the folder is "Getu TV Buchs".

Events Page:

Sharing Tab:

Bildschirmfoto 2020-09-08 um 06.19.04.png

If I search for the folder in the search field, I see following overview. The missing folder is listed as the last position:

However, if I want to restore it following message appears. A restore is not possible.

Best regards
Corina

Thanks for checking on that @Corina Ae!

It's rather strange that the Events page doesn't show any actions on this folder.

Could clarify for me if the "Dateien" folder that the last screenshot shows the missing folder to be in is still in your account too?

Also, do you have the same error if you try using another web browser or incognito window to try and perform the restore?

Keep me posted!

Hi Daphne

Thank you for your respone.

I am not sure, if I understand your question. The main folder "Dateien" in which the deleted folder "GETU TV Buchs" was listed does still exist. And also the other folders within this categorie. I also still see the folder "GETU TV Buchs" but cannot restore it.

I tried to restore the folder in Safari, Chrome and on my iPhone. I also asked several other person, who also were able to see and edit the folder, to try it.

Question from my side: As I mentioned before, we are a big group of people, who can see and edit the folder and it's document. These person changes often and sometimes I remove people. Could it be that one of these person with former rights to edit the folder deleted it because he wanted to clean dropbox?

Thank you for your quick response

Corina

Hi @Corina Ae, just to clarify, is this folder a subfolder in an already shared folder, or was it a shared folder on its own?

If it is a subfolder in a shared folder, are you certain you're the owner of the shared folder according to the 'Share' button?

Good morning Jay

It was a folder on its own, which contained many subfolders. Unfortunately, I cannot remember if I was the owner of this folder or not. However, I was able to invite people to see and edit the folder. I don't know, if all members of the folder can do this or just the owner.

Thank you for your quick response.

Greetings, Corina

Hallo @Corina Ae; wie geht es Ihnen?

I'm sorry to jump in here, but I wanted to thank you for the additional information on this one.

I'm not sure what might be happening here; could you please try restoring this folder via your deleted files page through another browser and let us know if you get the same results?

Apart from that, have you contacted any other member of this shared folder to ask them if they can re-add you to this folder or if they have a copy of it somewhere?

Dankeschön!
