I am new to Dropbox, and I have shared folders from my work, and these are taking my quota space over my limit! if i delete these, I believe they will delete for everyone?
I have worked my account up to around 8GB of free storage with referals but this is still now full!!
How do i remove the shared work folders, so that they don't block my account as its over the limit??

Yes. Shared folders exist in and take up space in your own account.

If you delete the files in the shared folder, yes, they'll be deleted for everyone.

Seriously? It exists in another account under their size limits but I'm gonna get penalized and lose space?

It exists in your account, too. You're not accessing the files in their account. The files are synced to your account so you need enough space to hold them.
The files are synced from the dropbox server, no reason that it should be counted against my limit other than for Dropbox to nickel and dime for users to pay for space

Yes, into your account, where they take up space just like any other file you have in the account.
