Unable to save

Hi all,
Short synopsis. Have used Dropbox previously. Kept telling me that I had no memory left to sync, I didn't really use it anymore so just stopped using it. Now I've been sent a large file of images via Dropbox. Again it said I was at capacity, after giving me the option to delete old devices, I've deleted two. This allowed me the opportunity to save the new file. But as soon as I try it says "couldn't save, please check your connection". Connection is fine, and doesn't offer any opinion on lack of space, pay more, etc. So feels like a dead end, but surely there's a solution? The Dropbox "help" sent me here. Gracious thanks in advance of you can help!
