Unable to share or manage files

Unable to share or manage files

I have been working in Dropbox since 2017 and now I am suddenly having all kinds of issues, ready to find a different venue:

1.  Multiple users on a folder were deleted by Dropbox.  I did not do this and all of these users were randomly deleted.  No one else has access to this folder.  I found out when one of the people, who has been using the folder in the past, could not get access.

2.  I am unable to add these users again, or add ANY additional users to the folder.  All it says is that the users are outside of my Dropbox team.  I have 42 users on this folder and if I could only share to people on my team of 1 (just me,)  what is the point of Dropbox?  I have been sharing with people for 3 years, suddenly I cannot share the folder?

3.  I am the admin on the account, yet it says I do not have permission to change anything to do with any of my folders that I created.

I am completely unable to work with my folders any longer.  I have not even been on the actual web site for months, I have been using the folders from my desktop, so I certainly did not change any settings and I am not even permitted to do this any longer.

I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.  Thanks.

Hi there @aasedler, I'd be more than happy to help look into this with you.

I'll just need a bit more information to make sure that I have a better understanding of your concern. For example:

  • Are you on a Business team, or an individual (Basic/Plus/Professional) account? If you're not sure, you can check from your Plan tab
  • Is the folder you're having trouble with a shared folder or a team folder?
  • If you still see the folder as being shared, can you click on the Share button that appears on the right, and let me know what your permissions are?
  • Can you see anything regarding this change in your events page?

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Hi Lusil,

When I set up the folder, my company was on a business plan, but we discontinued the plan and now I am on a personal account.

For some reason, I did find that I was not the owner of the folder, but i have now change that and I am now the owner of the folder.

A bit more digging showed that all of the people who were deleted were from the same company so I am now wondering if there was some change within that company that caused their deletion.  I am looking into this now before I take more of your time, but thanks for your help.  If I find there is not something happening on their end, i will reply again, but it seems suspicious to me that only people from that one company were deleted.

Thanks for your help.
