Why do I have a Duplicate Folder ?

Why do I have a Duplicate Folder ?

Apparently the only fldr created is duplicated for some unknown reason. So -

(1) how could this have happened ?  Is there no warning msg prior to creating a duplicate ?

(2) can the duplicate fldr be safely deleted ?  If so, (a) how are files transferred before deleting (b) how is fldr deleted ?

Thanx.

Bewildered

Hi @Bewildered_Bobby, thanks for messaging the Community.

Could you clarify what folder you're referring to?

Is this the Dropbox folder on your computer, or a folder on your Dropbox account?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi Jay: Thanx for the quick reply. Both fldrs appear to have same name that I assigned.

(1) i NOW know that fldrs can be either on my desktop or (remotely ?) within my Dropbox acct. How do I determine where it is stored ?

(2) the folder is one that I created to contain photos but appears twice. Is it possible that there are 2 fldrs with same name - one within my Dropbox acct, the other on my desktop ?

In order to understand what you're referring to, could you attach a screenshot showing the folder in your Dropbox folder and on the Dropbox site?

Hi again Jay: on my desktop under FAVORITES/DROPBOX only 2 folders are shown -

(1) .dropbox.cache (2) transfer files

also one Dropbox file- .dropbox

I hope that this helps.

Where is the duplicate folder in what you've described? This sounds like an almost empty Dropbox account.

Hi Jay: you wrote - "Where is the duplicate folder in what you've described ?"   How do I confirm my suspicion that it is ONLY within the online acct since it is not listed in contents of Dropbox folder on my desktop. But since I do not know (yet) how to determine its location when it appears within Dropbox app, I cannot confirm its location. Did I explain that well ?

What folders do you see on the site? A screenshot of this would help.

Is it possible that you enabled selective sync in the Dropbox desktop application?

Hi again Jay: if ONLY  "selective sync" results in apparent duplicate fldrs, then YES i probably did. Do you recommend deleting one of them until I decide if "selective sync" works for me ??  Thanx.

Hey @Bewildered_Bobby, we still haven't figured out what kind of duplicate folder this is.

Is it named exactly like the original? Or does it have some kind of parenthesis next to the name?

Please attach a screenshot in your next reply, so we can have a visual to assist you further.

There's a camera icon above the reply box to attach your screenshot to your message.
