deleted files NOT freeing up space!
How to fix this?
Or do we go to different provider. ?
DRop box provides conflicting messages and there is HUMAN reachable at the company to answer questsions.
Deleted files do free up space but the key thing to remember is that if you deleted 100,000 files but it only accounts to 500mb then you get 500mb back - yet one file at 20gb would release 20gb.
The other thing is that if you are in any shared folders that will use space and possibly take up the released quota as soon as you delete the files.

Thanks sir.
....." if you are in any shared folders...."
what does this mean? how do i know? how do i adjust.?
I only share folders with my few staff. they only add, delete, or copy files back to/from their PC.
your insights will be appreciated.
I keep getting messages saying my Dropbox is full. I've deled lots and lots of files and now only have 9 items showing in my Dropbox folder. Yet when I click the drop box icon in the startbar it says there are 47000+ items syncing.
Im a bit confused about how to actually delete folders when it appears that they are gone but still have messages saying my dropbox is full. Can you help me please, i'm feeling down, and do appreciate you being round. 🙂
I see many discussions - most claim NOT possible to free up space. yet others say possible.
what is the truth?
CAN You FREE UP SPACE? AND how?
OR IS THIS A DONE DEAL AND WE MUST MOVE ALL OUR BUSSINEES TO ANOTHER platform.
seems very weird business model to prevent deleting files and free up space. all we get are "buy" more . this is a non starter because if we connot free up space then we will run out of money as we evolve our documents. We definitely do not want to keep obsolete files.
any recommendations for alternative provider ?
drop box seems unwilling to address this is transparent manner.

Yes, of course you can. Space is immediately reclaimed when you delete files.
I appreciate your fast reply.
unfortunately that is not the case.
we did not get any space back after deleting a lot of files.
can you tell us and the world how this is done?
it seems that many others have same issue. i did not see any answers that solved the problem.
so please elaborate on HOW to free up space. because DropBox states that deleting does not free up space.
thanks
can you describe HOW to do this.?
the shared folder component is confusing. WHAT exactly needs to be done to free up space.?
thanks
It does free up space - but you have to delete it from Dropbox, so deleting from a computer etc. and NOT letting that sync to Dropbox does not work (if you have syncing enabled just delete out of the Dropbox folder and let it sync). If not....
So simply go to www.dropbox.com/home and tick the files/folders to delete then tap on Delete. Then as soon as the spinner vanishes - your space is reclaimed.
However what I would say here is that space is exactly that - space. So if you are 2gb over and delete 1.2gb of space.... you are still over quota. Same goes for file numbers - that doesnt matter. It is size. So deleting 100,000 files that total 1mb will only clear 1mb of space where as deleting 1 video file of 3gb gives 3gb of space back. The OTHER thing is that shared folders use quota. So, if you are in shares and they are larger than your account even if you delete everything they wont sync to you because they are too large. Look at www.dropbox.com/account/plan for how your quota is used up

@letsgo2dr - to free up space you MUST not have access to the files/folders at www.dropbox.com/home anymore. So, if you are in any shared folders you MUST leave them. They must not be on your account any more.
