taking files out of dropbox without losing them on hard drive

taking files out of dropbox without losing them on hard drive

Hi my dropbox is nearly full. My solution is to lift files out and save them in my hard drive (mostly pictures). When i try to do this the message says if I delete a file in dropbox it will be deleted from all my devices. I only want to move it out of dropbox ,not lose it altogether.

How do I  resolve this?

Thanks for your help!

Hello David

Thanks for reaching out here in the community.  The notification is just a warning.  It is just telling you that you are striving to move files out of your Dropbox folder.  Since it knows that the files will NOT be in your Dropbox folder if you continue moving them, it feels that it needs to warn you.  If you still desire to move them, you can ignore the warning.  You also have the option to not see that warning again when doing the task again

also, David, moving them out of your Dropbox folder and onto your Harddrive will not save space on your HD.  Only if you are moving files onto a different Harddrive other than c: drive.

Your Dropbox folder is just like any other folder on your machine, the Dropbox Client just monitors any changes of files and syncs them to the Servers and to any Devices linked to your account.
