Stable Build 3.0.2

Welcome to 3.0!

New in 3.0.2

  • Fixes moving Dropbox folder location on Linux.

New in the 3.0 series:

  • Rewrite of the Windows & Linux UI (1)
  • File identifiers (2)
  • Windows long path support (3)
  • New Linux headless setup flow
  • Updated splash screens
  • New Finder icon overlays
  • New Windows notification area icons
  • New black and white Mac menu bar icons (4)

Notes

  1. This UI rewrite helps us fix a large number of issues/glitches you have reported over the years, improve performance, support high DPI on Windows, a new setup wizard on Linux, and more!
  2. File identifiers enable Dropbox to detect when files have been moved and renamed. In the future we'll be able to use this to improve features such as Previous versions. For now, this change should be invisible. Let us know if applications working with files in your Dropbox start interacting differently.
  3. While Dropbox on Windows now supports paths longer than 260 characters, many applications such as Windows Explorer and Microsoft Word do not.
  4. We now have just one set of menu bar icons on Mac which are black and white. These icons fully support Yosemite's dark mode.
  5. On OS X 10.10 Yosemite, context menu items outside of the Dropbox folder are not supported. This means the "Move to Dropbox" context menu item is not supported. This is due to a limitation in Yosemite's Finder Sync Framework.

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

So far good for my iMac.

I would also vote for to bring the blue icon back and have it an option. Thx

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

Thanks for this new release. I just have two more questions:

  1. The initial configuration doesn't allow for changing the Dropbox folder location anymore. So it uses the default location ($HOME/Dropbox in Linux) and starts downloading everything. You can change it later in the settings, but when selecting an already exising Dropbox folder, there's just a message saying "This folder already contains a Dropbox directory." Is it not possible to use an existing folder, which is NOT in the default location?
  2. Using GNOME Shell 3.14, there's no icon in the message tray. Just an empty spot, which is highlighted. Did you forget adding HiDPI icons, or is it a problem on my side?

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

3.0.2 still carries forward two consistent bugs present in this version on Mac (10.10.1):
(1) After restart the Mac (and a still extremely lengthy initial start-up of Dropbox (5-10 min)), the Dropbox icon overlay in the Finder for the Dropbox folder remains blue (indicating ongoing sync) - when in fact, sync has been completed and all sub-folders have a green icon overlay.
(2) Dropbox keeps forcing its icon back into the Finder toolbar after every re-start.

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

Howdy,

Steffan B.: 1)How large is your DropBox? Do you mean gray rather than blue? That isn't syncing that would be loss of communucation. 2)Do you have DropBox Preferences set to start up at login?

Good Luck,
Herb Schulz

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

I still have the old icon for the app's DMG and in Applications folder.

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

could somebody let me know more about this new Linux headless setup flow...

I currently have a dropbox client installed on my Linux VPS.... which I use to make backups of my server on a nightly basis.

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

I think it's sad the the small green update signs on the folders are gone.
No way to see when things are up-to-date anymore.
Also my menu icon docent change. Before it was showing a synchronizing icon and when it was finish it showed a normal updated icon.
Now it always loos the same :(

Re: Stable Build 3.0.2

Howdy,

Sjegren G.: What OS are you using? Under Mac OS X 10.10.1 you can turn on `enable Finder integration' in Preferences (must have it turned off in 10.10.0) and you have that again.

Good Luck,
Herb Schulz
